Ron Pynenburg

Ron is a Registered Architect and a founding Director of Pynenburg & Collins Architects. He is a former president of the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA), and has previously chaired the New Zealand Registered Architects Board (NZRB). He has more than 35 years’ experience in commercial, community, off-the-grid and residential architectural design.

Based in our Christchurch office, Ron is one of New Zealand's leading experts in building code compliance – most notably in the provision of access of facilities for people with disabilities.

His consultancy work extends to providing peer reviews and determinations for the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment; he is also an expert witness for issues around weathertightness remediation, Building Code compliance, and accessibility. He conducts training seminars on accessibility for building consent officials, architects and design professionals.

Further afield, Ron has designed projects in some of New Zealand’s most extreme environments. He has designed back-country huts for the Department of Conservation as well as facilities for Scott Base in Antarctica. He authored the Hut Procurement Manual, which has become a means of compliance within the New Zealand Building Code.
